Poetic Response

How I have met the course learning objectives:

  • I developed strategies for drafting and reading poems.
  • I engaged in the collaborative and social aspects of this writing process by presenting my poems in class.

Additional: I have overcome my fear of writing poems.

The Bay.

I
Windy eventide
A big, suffering fish swims
Whilst avoiding lies.

II
Congested Sheepshead bay
A winged, hungry gull awake
Enjoying the ride.

III
Cloudless purple sky
A conscious friend realizes,
The fish are alive.

Wake up.
Greeted by ego
Every step of the way,
Dissolving slowly into figures
Who promise to stay.

Waking up in a lucid dream,
Blue, purple, green
Choosing to believe
In this pattern of being.

Who am I to transform
My truth into light,
Every step of the way
I am begged to stay blind.

Honoring myself
Once came into my mind,
No, stay!
A persistent cry.

We will choose
Your career
Your lover
Your path
Breaking up the cycle
Would split you in half.

Brushing off the thought
Of vibrant highs,
Destined to stay silent
Like a slaughtered lamb.

Inner voice turns into a guide
Wake up!
This is far from your path!

Look at me!
I am trapped, alone in the dark
Take control of your life
Release all the lies.

Shedding my skin twice,
It must be hard,
Manifesting my life
To become my own light.

I no longer believe
In the realm of death,
I am here to change,
For the better or best.

Hopelessly complex, deeply flawed farms.
Hopelessly complex, deeply flawed farms,
A bucolic ring, massive red barns
Behind the scenes continue to impact the masses!
Make us sick!
Fat-laden, artery-clogging meat and cheese we like
Destroy the environment!
Dangerous environmental conditions are yet to come
Subject animals to cruelty!
Food choices align with our values,
Slaughterhouses will craft
Fatten-up animals,
Causing millions of citizens to die!
For decades, sustainable factory farms
Abuse our friends,
It’s time to shut it d —
Come on! Just stop and meet your food demands!
